Democracy Poem by Simon Samuda

Democracy

British democracy promotes
The interests of the rich,
At the expense of the poor,
A cabinet of millionaires,
A plutocracy at its core.

Viva the Queen of England,
David Cameron descended from royalty,
Prince Charles has a say on policy,
Lady Diana treated with cruelty.

To echo my Sinn Féin brothers,
Down with the aristocracy!

Greed runs rampant,
Caught in corruption
Members of Parliament.

Neil Hamilton goes to prison,
The Expenses Scandal
Warrants a mention.
Kleptocrats have arisen,
The public tax they have taken.

Malcolm called it hypocrisy,
Masquerading as democracy.

Should not one be governed,
By virtue and talent,
Are we not citizens free,
Or are we still subservient.

I have a right to question,
An immoral system,
That needs correcting,
Viva the revolution.
