Denounced Poem by priscah Mutswenje

Denounced

What a satanic delight
You suffocated me from the onset
You pressed my throat and could not let
Go of me.

You dominated my world like a pet
That was officially secured
You intoxicated my world
You laughed at my dreams baptized wild

I almost knelt to the ground
To justify what you had found
An empty heart a hollow hound
Lagging behind a past so loud and sound

My effort you crushed
Reminding me of the stashed
Notes of retrogressive nourished
Grannies and clansmen prematurely famished

But now I stand to my feet
And command your likes, Retreat
Before I pound your flesh bit by bit
Mine is a kingdom of faith, persistence, and wit

I hold your hands and overwhelm your power
It is been years and I no longer cower
At your look that is ugly, filthy, unfriendly and sour
Such a pathetic, revolting, punitive tower
Is not my portion
And never my option
