Destiny Poem by Shannon Hughes

Destiny

Rating: 3.8

A hear the knocking of
Destiny at my door
I prepare myself for what’s ahead
And unlatch the lock
The door swings open
A large grin on my face
My eyes squeezed shut
I peek, just one eye
And all I see is
The lonely nothingness
I’ve been living with
For all my life
I just stare at the blackness
At my doorstep
Not even hearing the winds
For wind cannot make
Noise with no matter
To rustle
I stare
And stare
Hoping, longing, praying
For something
Anything
But nothing emerges from the blackness
Nothing
I sit there
On the floor
Waiting for Destiny to come knocking
And just as I was giving up hope
For good
I hear a bold knock
A proud knock
On my door
I rush to unlatch the lock
And the door swings open
A large grin on my face
My eyes squeezed shut
I peek, just one eye
And I see
Not the endless black of nothing
But the wonderful
Marvelous
Exhilarating
Light of Destiny
And it yanks me out of the dark
And into the light
It is an indescribable feeling
When what you’ve been waiting for
Your whole life
Finally arrives
Comes knocking at your door
