Did I Look Like A Punchline To You? Poem by Lauren Harper

Did I Look Like A Punchline To You?

Heart beating. Thump thump.
Hands searching, thump, thump.
I said no. thump thump,
Stop it, please. Thump thump.
Fingers taking a name that wasn't theirs.
Nails scratching flesh.
Fists suffocating a name that was mine.
Lips saying a word that was mine.
Stop taking what is mine
Mine. Mine. Mine.
Why did you take what was mine.
I am empty and full at the same time.
I told you no what part of no meant yes.
In No world in no way did my no mean yes?
It is not an acronym for New ownership.
It means Never Okay.
My Never okay means step back.
Stop taking more of me.
It is mine.
It was mine.
I was mine.
Sometimes I still feel your fists around my neck.
The way my heart felt like it was going to explode.
How helpless I was.
It didn't matter that your fingers clawed at me in public.
Bystanders either didn't care or must have thought it was a joke.
Did I look like a punchline to you?
Please tell me what part of my obstruction of humanity was humorous.
