Didn'T Ask For Much Poem by Debora Soramaki

Didn'T Ask For Much

He was a hard-working man
He'd get up early every morning
He'd reach for a sauce pan
And make oatmeal to eat before going,
But there was always one thing
He'd have me do
That was to make him a lunch
Before he was through.
Cheddar cheese on bread
With strawberry jam,
I didn't argue with him if he didn't want ham.
It was a weird combination,
I never understood why, but when I learned the reason
I began to cry,
You see, He wanted us to have all the rest,
Not just cheese and ham, but the very best.
He could do without, that's how he grew up,
He'd give us a gallon while he took a cup.
