You can die a thousand times yet live merely once
before you enter the abyss
which is death
what the soul has to endure, kills the spirit
before it returns to the ether
the heart refuses to surrender
blood flows as the heart beats
but the spirit doesn't breathe
eyes close when the spirit dies
then those eyes open again
when the spirit is reborn every time
even after it has died
a thousand traumatic times.
