Dignitas Poem by Alex Lane

Dignitas

The longest lesson from the cruellest teacher can take anyone to the edge
And no-one ever comes to pull you back from that ledge
A leap of faith without any hope of return that each will take
I see those lucky souls jumping as the surface of the abyss breaks
knowing love was just a blessing that busted my heart in time
I can't begin to tolerate the beats that roll with no shine
holding to a memory of a much more beautiful song
each sunset I pass tells me that I must stay strong

The moon rises and I can't keep it together
such a fool to think I could hold it forever
the demon inside has no place to hide
Furies burning to collide
and I lean
I lean to die
the life I choose is the one I estrange
the moment has come for that to change
I sing my last song until my breath is gone
I am not afraid since where my head is laid
is the gravestone of all romance

I have dealt with forms my entire life
weaving my ideas in and out of reality
coming to conclusions I could not share
but instead scattering breadcrumbs to the masses
in hope someone else will find me out here
in this wilderness of eternity
A white city carved out of purest rock
that came from a quarry of thought
built by myth and legend which brought up hope
This place, this utopia is empty
proud barbarians and lost causes
each of us find our own heaven
no stone unturned
no sinner deserted
while the nurtured world falls to rubble, that dream
that distant echo of peace
will ever be standing in the valley
between quiet trees and golden shores
our fortunes come and go
but this light eternal
it will never leave us alone

My darlings I
I lean to die
in your everlasting arms
stripped now of my foolish charms
how hopeful now
now I see Tao
in my unrelenting heart
offering up one last piece of art
you kiss my head and say it's over now.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This came off the back of a song I heard called "the end of romance" by Deus. This actually outlines the basis for a heavenly place existent in my book.
