Dinner Date Poem by Randy McClave

Unto me the woman did say
On a date who should always pay,
Should it be equal, or should it always be the man
What should be the plan.
After months of dating the same person
Should the man ever get angry or cursin',
Whenever the woman expects him to pay once again
Isn't this expected from all single and married men.
Then I asked the very same woman this
Who should then initiate the kiss,
Should it be the one who pays for the date
Should they be the one required to initiate.
If a man pays for your lunch or dinner
Does that make him the ultimate winner,
Does that mean he can have sex with you whenever he does desire
Is he just a buyer.
You're telling a man he's paying for your time
He's paying for your attention with his every nickel and dime,
You're saying this relationship isn't equal
If it were me, I promise you there would be no sequel.
My time is worth more than yours, you are saying
Whenever the man is paying,
If you go on a date and you don't pay your share
You show the man that you don't really care.
If you go on a date and you don't ask to pay that night
Then you weren't taught or raised right,
If a man goes on a date and doesn't ask to pay at all
He wasn't taught right either, and in him you would see a flaw.
Then upon me she then looked and then said
A man should always pay, from every book I have ever read,
"I wouldn't go on a date with a man who wasn't buying"
Then I replied, "I wouldn't go on a date with a woman who wasn't trying."
