Dinner For The Stover Family Poem by Luke Easter

Dinner For The Stover Family

Who is that smiling slender dude walking around?
And why can’t he just go somewhere to sit down?
Do you want some water, can I get you anything,
Should you say yes, whatever it is he will bring.

Who is that woman with her likewise caring style?
Must be related to that guy, same attitude & smile,
Say what, they’re not related but husband and wife,
So that means their kids are blessed with doing right?

I know everyone has heard the phrase, “you DA man? ”
But, I’ll bet you didn’t know, it originated with Stan,
Up stairs, down stairs, shoveling snow, cutting grass,
Another thing, why does he have to move so darn fast?

One day I told Emmanuel, hey upstairs we need a table,
He held up his hand as though to say chill I’m well able,
Before I could finish my coffee and put down the cup,
He’s back downstairs, relax old man, I already set it up.

Well okay, SJ, Stanley Junior, just like his dear old dad,
Young man in my younger days I might have been mad,
He was up and down so fast, what could I possibly say?
This apple didn’t fall far from the tree, must be his DNA.

An absent older brother Phillip came into the world first,
Proudly serving in the USAF like his family at our church,
This is Val’s fault, if your work wasn’t so stellar at the VA,
Stover’s wouldn’t have to move with a huge increase in pay.

Hey Mesa Arizona, Cleveland’s lost is obviously your gain,
Job 22: 28 I decree blessings wherever you go, just the same,
Sincerely for Jesus’ light to shine eternally on all of your ways,
Even basking in December’s sun as we’re stuck in snow days.

Of course the oldest son Warren is here, a good Christian fella,
Hey, let us truly not forget the big boss, Valerie’s mother Della,
And should we not be able to find a trio to pick up their slack,
It is an opportunity to hold mama hostage and get them back.

Hold on, yes your faithfulness will be very tough to replace,
Not only the hard work but also the sincerity on your face,
Now everyone raise your glass of whatever, one toast, a sip,
If you really want to be remembered, you can leave the tip.

Yes, on this June 6,2010 we joyfully feast at the Golden Corral,
A see you later dinner, not good bye to Stan, Emmanuel & Val,
“We will eat in plenty, be satisfied and give praise” Joel 2: 26,
It’s been an honor for Good Hope to enjoy your fellowship.
