Dismal Thoughts... Poem by Shameca Biggs

Dismal Thoughts...

In the dismal gloom where black and gray entwine to birth a fog
I sit and ponder, sweat coating my brow in dread
Of those sinful deeds done, of those bitter things said
All the decided actions of my life recorded on a celestial log

In this cloud that embodies the dim flickering flame of my feeble soul
I study the words in the love letter he wrote
The letter becoming a story, the story becoming a plea; I choke
My eyes burn with shame, my tears run with pain
As the curse takes its toll

Like a flower with no petals, a butterfly with no wings,
I slip into a fall
My mistake was loving death, In this war I’m bereft
Stained and soiled with the blood of them all

His love letter flutters to the floor promising forever more
Inhale. Exhale. Tally the score.
For that last and final call.
