Distant Spring Poem by Barry Middleton

Distant Spring

with winter coming
spring is just a memory

the earth endures
spring will come again

the orchid will bloom
the rose will astonish

from death comes life
nourished by the past

the dust of ancestry
is the soil we walk upon

children gather flowers
in the month of May
