Divinity Survived Poem by Robert Burgan

Divinity Survived

She walked on withered leaves until the trees whispered her name
The sound of sweet nothings echo endlessly through the heavy-hearted haze
Sweeping her sideways into serenity she went through a whirlwind of self-induced pain
Now she walks through fields of flowers, still living
A miracle, mystery snuffed out the flame, she remains….
Her somber eyes like low tides settle down after the storm
Her beauty exists infinitely she looks like diamonds shaped to take on human form
No empty compliment can complete her
Motives aimed in the wrong direction will never sweep her feet
Stare at her face and see eternity returning in time to repeat the meet and greet
But I can still see a shipwreck buried deep in the depths of her ecstasy
She gazes endlessly into that monotonous, empty sea that only she can see
Something dark that she'll never pretend to be
She's a sunny sky on the outside
Inside I can hear the rain pouring as she speaks so softly, her appeal makes the noise
I'll stand in the rain with her until the umbrella gets destroyed then I'll overpower everything
Because I'm not in this conversation to steal her joy….
After she leaves I stand with open eyes as wide as the tide
Envisioning her life before the shipwreck
I witnessed HOPE, perfectly defined
All of the above epitomized to describe that remarkably
Divinity survived
She's alive!
Tiptoeing like an angel on ice
Once the cold disappears she's free to dive back into her life
No longer a shipwreck, she's a relaxing cruise that ends in an explosion of light
I witnessed HOPE, perfectly defined
All of the above epitomized to describe that remarkably
Divinity survived
She's alive.
