Do Not Curse Your Vessel Poem by Mohammad Younus

Do Not Curse Your Vessel

Do not curse your vessel—
It's not the breast that aches,
but the lies it carries.
It's not the eyes that betray you,
but the illusions you choose to see.

It's not the ears that grieve,
but the discord of words unfit for your soul.
It's not the head that burdens,
but the storm of evil thoughts it harbors.

It's not the tongue that wounds,
but the careless words it sets free.
It's not the stomach that revolts,
but the truths your spirit cannot digest.

It's not the liver that falters,
but the fire of anger burning within.
It's not the heart that breaks,
but the idols and falsehoods you invite inside.

It's not the mind that misleads,
but the shadows of pride and ego you nurture.

It is you—the bearer of all pain,
For misusing the gifts you were given.
Know yourself, dear one.
Mend what lies within—
Your vessel holds all you are.

Do not curse your vessel—
It holds all that you are.
