Do Not Die A Fool Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Do Not Die A Fool

Do not die a fool
Do not die before your time
And don't die another mans death
If you plan to die at all, especially before
It is turn by turn, Let it be your turn
That you may get the praise of people
Not to have died in vain
For no man is able to stay back
Let no one push you to the precipice
Where you are cornered to the wall
Fighting for them and theirs
And you are left in the cold
Wandering how you got to where you are
With you and yours on receiving ends
No place to lay your head
Nor place to plant your crops
As all have  been taken for their generations
Inclusive of those yet to be born
And here you are fighting a just cause
With no just cause for what they do
They often laugh at your back
Wandering how you can believe them
When they often not belief themselves
You face starvation for them
You face diseases for them
You face poverty for them
Now You want to face death for them
While there generations are shipped away
Into foreign lands of opulence
With your stolen wealth as backup
They transverse the land in open display
Of your ill gotten wealth sharing
The crumbs for the likes of you and yours
Who takes the bullet for them
Do not die the death of a fool
It will only amount to sacrilege
And the sacrifice of the foolish
Better still let them fight their battles
Because every man has his fight
Let them face the consequences of their doing
Perchance  they may learn some things

I think I shall not plan to die at all. Quite an effort in this one. Read mine - We the Unencumbered - Adeline
