Donated Heart Poem by Ajit Das

Donated Heart

She is engaged; but a thought
uppermost in her mind:
who will lead her down the aisle?
Her father was murdered long ago.
The killer in the prison; not known,
if there is remorse in his cruel heart.

Suddenly a flicker in her eyes:
the father's heart still alive
beats in the body of an old man
who was on the door of death.
Lest he feel obligated, she pens a letter
to him, making the teary request.

On the marriage day a moving scene unfolds.
He walks her down the aisle.
At the altar she puts her hand on his chest,
strangely feeling her dad's heartbeat:
he is right there with all of them
to bless her in her new journey in life.
