Doves And Seagulls Poem by David Thomas

Doves And Seagulls

When I was alone there was nothing
these dark woods were no sanctum
the cloudy days full of rain were like
wars privately waging inside one's own mind,
begrudging little tasks into these giant
monsters

When I was with you there was everything
the sun was a beacon not a heading
there was no weather unacceptable
I could have died a thousand times to
have held your gaze just once,
making everything I knew so much
greater

When I was without you there was hole
something missing replaced half-heartedly
the hatred and anger the sadness they spread
corroding like acid all they touch,
melting away the fondest memories
first

When I was alone there was nothing
there was less hatred and angst in my heart
the days were long and endless
there was no rescue rhyme or reason,
until one day when i met
you
