Down In My Memory Lane... Poem by Anita Singh

Down In My Memory Lane...

Rating: 5.0

I went down in my memory lane
On still and cold December night,
My past thoughts clinging to the darkest corner
Of my mind to seek warmth.

Alas! They found no shelter.

Mind didn't sympathise with them
But heart, it cried and shouted
In the silence of injustice,
And got tattered into pieces.
Soul turned sapless and pale,
No strength left to survive in tense of truth.

No freedom to remember or recall
The sweet memories of dear old friend,
Whom this world has forgotten
But, I remember...
No revolt, no outrage and no revenge,
For my thoughts are prohibited
To creep into the changed landscape of life.
Heart still lay bruised and bleeding
In memory of my friend.

Many seasons have changed,
New calendar has been put up on my room's wall,
Old trees have fallen down,
New buildings have come up,
But, this heart and feelings are still the same
Entangled in the thorns of past.

I want to stay as a prisoner,
Behind the bars of those sweet days
Which I spent with my friend.
No freedom, no liberty and no hope,
Demand is simple -
I want to go down my memory lane
To meet my dear old friend.
Who is there in my thoughts,
But not in this real world...

I looked around myself,
Alas! I stood alone...
in my memory lane
Shivering with cold and warmth of
My friend's thoughts in my heart....
