Down The Hatch Poem by Lori Boulard

Down The Hatch

Rating: 4.3

All I ever needed to hear
Was said best by the Bard
Back in seventh grade.
Since then it’s all been
Downhill
And scout’s honor
Though I never joined,
There are days
When I’d rather take
An honest shot
From Bukowski
Than a sweet sip of dew
From Dickinson.
Don’t misunderstand me.
Dew has its place,
But after a long day
And a long drink
Nothing goes down
Quite like the truth,
Even if it hurts.

Man, I like them both but I never considered Emily in that way. I find some of her writing quite agressive. You don't have to be crass to be angry. There's a lot of energy here and I enjoyed, 'Don’t misunderstand me/ Dew has its place.' An original line, methinks.
