Downward Poem by William B. Deutscher

Downward

Blundering hard
in discontent,
down to the lower levels
with time soon spent,
see the topside devils
and remember
childhood haunts,
old restaurants,
present tense
nonsense,
the cruel hits,
big of tricks,
tired schtick.
By golly,
this fat folly
is our sealed fate
which we recognize
too late.
Now it's going,
fading fast,
a matinee showing
from the past.
Time to downsize.
