Dream... Poem by Erik Rodriguez

Dream...

Rest your head upon my lap
For it is time for us to nap
To drift away to a far off place
And succumb to our dreams gentle embrace
Each day we've had to face the pain
Of how they took our love in vain
The struggle that seems everlasting still
The strongest test of our strength of will
But now we have a moment's peace
To finally let our spirit release
Itself from chains of dark despair
And surround it with our love and care
Our minds will know what it is to be free
Like fish along the deep blue sea
Creativity flowing strong from within
Enough to make the Earth itself spin.
Now let this sleep make your body go numb
Your eyes, so heavy, they will become
Reality slowly falls further away
As you let your consciousness slip away
Know that I look over you
Protecting you from those untrue
Unhesitant, I lay myself on the line
To see our hands once more intertwine
I glance at you as, on my lap, you rest
To have met you is why I feel blessed
In a moment's time, I too shall sleep
And in my mind, your image I will keep
It is to our dreams we can escape
Although we know that we must wake
The time we're there is time well spent
For when we arise, we'll feel content.
So do not let your tears rain down
Cause I am here to wash away your frown
I'll protect you to the very end.
Know that I love you, my beloved friend.
