Dream Stallion Poem by Andrea Bailey

Dream Stallion

I dreamed last night I saw a horse
As handsome as could be.
He stopped upon a moonlight hill,
So swift so fleet so free.

His black mane like a banner unfurled
As he tossed his proud head high
And sent his challenge to all men
Ringing through the sky.

He reared up high and pawed the air,
An ebony work of art,
And in his frame was power,
Courage in his heart.

The hand of man had never touched
His coat of glossy black.
He knew not whip, or bit, or spurs,
Or saddle on his back.

Then he turned and galloped off
Into the black of night
And through I longed to see him still
He’d vanished from my sight.

And as I think about this horse
The king that he did seem
I wish with all my heart
That he were true and not a dream.
