Dreaming Reality Poem by Chase Breeden

Dreaming Reality

I closed my eyes to dream a dream
A dream that things were what they seemed
But in the dreaming of my dream
You slowly slipped away
I dreamed the dream of hearts worldwide
Of pushing loneliness aside
Of never needing a place to hide
But all the colors ran to grey
And this dream, it changed
An old nightmare
I lay there crippled, too much to bare
Not able to love, to injured to care
Not one would ever stay
I awoke to find that you were gone
No need or want to travel on
The heart in me, I would not pawn
To shorten loves delay
So I sat there waiting, wondering why
You'd left me there, alone, to die
I realized though, before I cried
It was meant to be this way
I arose from that cold, hard floor
And walked toward a familiar door
This door, almost forgotten lore
Has been there all my days...
