Dreamscape Poem by Sara Katherine Dickson

Dreamscape

Tap tap tap tap
Fleeting tears upon broken glass
In the distance-Nothing
Nothing!
But the sickly sweet aroma
As ashes fall on a dream carcass, glittering remains
Emptiness! I say, the bones are all hollow.

Jaws of fame ensnare a wasteland of torn hearts,
-Beating, beating softly-
Thump thump thump thump
The hands of a clock fall limp, suddenly silent
For the whir-the gentle whir of turning gears
Shhh!
Spelling oh so slowly-spelling Fear, glorious Fear!
Echoing in the distance its letters
Each one a mocking laugh
A fatal cracking, grinding of nails
Illuminating sharp
A pinprick in the shadows
An enemy of this-
Haunting
