Dress You Up In Diamonds And Pearls Poem by Justin Gildow

Dress You Up In Diamonds And Pearls

Rating: 5.0

In the cove by the sea
I know where you're going to be
And I know you'll be waiting for me

I take a seat on top of a large rock
As I bide my time for a few moments
Waiting for you to arrive

Rising up from the water
You swim over to me
And you grab a hold of the large rock I've
been sitting on
As of which now I'm laying down on now
Facing you
Smiling at you

You offer me a greeting
As we stare at each other
Face to face

Sweetheart
I know you're a mermaid
But you're a wonder to behold
I'd dress you up in diamonds and pearls
if I could

It would only be a dream come true
If I somehow could dress you up in diamonds
and pearls

Maybe it's not so impossible
Down in the water
You and I spy diamonds and pearls

One by one
You pick up all the diamonds and pearls
sitting on the bottom of the sea cove
And give them all to me

I string together necklaces full of diamonds
and pearls for you to wear
As you tell me of your many adventures
Under the sea
The many sea creatures you see
The sunken ships you pass
The many treasures that lie discarded on
the ocean floor

After quite some time
The necklaces I've made for you are finished

Offering you a hand so you can sit beside me
on this large rock
I get behind you
You hold your hair up
As I slip these necklaces that I've made for you
over your head and around your neck

After I finish and retain my seat once more
You gaze down at the necklaces I made for you
Tears of happiness start to form in your eyes
You tell me thank you and give me a tender hug

So much time has passed
And I know I must say goodbye to you for the time
being
But as you and I know
We'll see each other again
One day in time

Getting back into the water
You softly wave to me
Saying thank you to me for the wonderful gifts I've
given to you of necklaces with diamonds and pearls
I tell you you're welcome
And that it was an honor dressing you up in diamonds
and pearls

You and I glance up at each other one more time
As you swim back to sea
I'll miss you
But I know I'll see you again
My mermaid friend
