Cheerleaders Poem by Justin Gildow

Cheerleaders

Knowing you both like you know me
You both see me standing around
Having all the time in the world with me today

You girls both ask me to come with you
And seeing how things are going for me today
I'll gladly accept your girls invitation and come along

You both lead me to one of your homes
And invite me to come in
We reach the living room
And you both ask me to sit down and make myself at home
You both tell me that you'll be right back

I sit back in a chair
Closing my eyes lightly while softly dreaming
I also open my eyes while daydreaming as well

You both return
And you both are dressed up as cheerleaders
Decked out in full uniform
From the sweaters with the initials stitched on the front
To the pleated skirts
From the white socks
To the hi-tops
From the ribbons in your hair
To the makeup and glitter on your faces
You both have brought your pom poms
But you both have put them off to the side
For the time being

I comment on how beautiful the both of you are
You both give me a thank you
You both tell me you have a cheerleading competition coming up soon
And you both ask me if I want to hear some of your cheers
As well as see some of your dances
Dances with handclaps
As well as dances with pom poms
I tell them to go ahead

You both tell me to relax and enjoy the show
So I relax in my chair
And the two of you begin
You both clap your hands and yell out a cheer
And after one cheer
I applaud you both for your spirit and energy

You both tell me there's more
You both grab your pom poms
And you both show me a favorite dance routine of yours
Which to point out, is something I've never seen before

After all your cheers
After all your dances
You both ask me what I thought of it all
I smile and I applaud you girls
Telling you both I loved your spirit
Telling you both I loved your energy
Telling you both I loved your enthusiasm
As the competition draws near
I wish you girls the best

You both give me a very special thank you
And you both give me a kiss and a hug
Thanking me for being here for you girls
Thanking me for seeing what you both can do
And thanking me for just being there
