Drinking Tea In The Sun Poem by Brooke Hippie

Drinking Tea In The Sun

Rating: 5.0

Drinking tea in the sun, the afternoon sun
In a woven hammock
On a rickety old porch
Where the bittersweet butterflies flap their colorful wings
And their colours paint a rainbow
Drinking tea in the sun
Drinking tea on a pirate ship
Drinking tea while the pirates play poker and
Fill themselves with rum
And salty air
Drinking tea by a swing set
And an open pack of cigarettes
Drinking tea while poor children starve in
Peru
Tea makes me smart
The knowledge soaks in
The more I drink
The trees change colors
And grow bigger
I think about different things
About love, colour, boyfriends
Drowning in their low self esteem
While I look at bonfires on the beach
And sketch telephone poles
Packed with pidgeons
Pidgeons down in the market square
Im standing in my underwear
Sitting on a bench
Playing guitar
Window shopping.
I pass an alley
There’s a trash can and a child
Wrapped in newspaper
She looks at me
Her big eyes, the color of what shes wearing
I can read her
i think of you.
I wonder where you are.
I give her my tea.
she smiles.
