Driveway Cat Poem by Donal Mahoney

Driveway Cat

He's supposed to be a feral cat
and I'd never tell him otherwise
but when my wife goes shopping

he waits hours for her
patiently on his haunches
steadfast in our driveway

his tail around his quarters.
He's fed quite well and likes
his kibble always on the deck so

he's not waiting because he's hungry.
And when my wife is in the house he
hides not far from the feeder in the tree

hoping some myopic bird will land.
You see my wife feeds the birds
and the cat as well but ignores me

when I tell her she's fattening up
the birds for the feral cat that
waits for her in the driveway.
