Drowning In The Rain Poem by Michael Veremans

Drowning In The Rain

It rained dramatically,
It rained like crying,
It rained from a blue sky
Striped with electricity.
It rained on the night city
Glittering and mysterious
Lights glowing
With chemical pity

Late into the still
Blue and orange night
A drug addict watches
From his door stoop
All of the lives pass him
Like lantern ghosts
Into the dying night
And the dead city.

There are no more excuses
And the spoon has rusted thin.
Where he once left
Clear fog to breath acid,
Now he plunges in
To the lost snow,
The orchestrated failures,
And suffocates to death.
