Duty To Love Poem by William Kofoed

Duty To Love

I promised forever
and forever I will
I promised a memory
oh so long ago

we met in the sunlight
and began a new day
together so happy
forever to be

now just a memory
so cherished and dear
in the fading memories
through so many years

day faded into the twilight
and into nighttime so dark
and into a morning
so cloudy and gray

gone was the sunlight
and so was the joy
never returning
just memory remains

lost in the nighttime
changed forever to be
I promised a memory
and just memory remains

I promised forever
and forever I will
I promised a memory
oh so long ago
