Dying Wishes For Happiness Poem by Reginald Reid

Dying Wishes For Happiness

WHEN I'M GONE

Lay me down to die up on the hills amongst the clouds.
Let the mist caress my skin unhindered by sad shrouds.
Call the birds to chorus at the coming of the dawn
To lift the hearts of any who might come to me to mourn.

Lay me down upon the green and grassy hills to feel the wind in all its power.
Amongst the bracken and the flowers I'll spend my final hours.
Sing a song and music play so all enjoy a pleasant day,
And dance as in the good times with joy to while the time away.

As one, recall the good times as treasured memories there.
Speak of friends and distant places and the time we had to share.
Know the beauty in the sunrise and sunset wrapped around each hopeful day.
Hold the hand of one you love to match the words you say.

Let no tears fall freely from your eyes for sense of loss or grief,
But within yourself take time to think of how a life is brief.
Consider what it's all about this play so sad and glad,
This thing called life mixed up of so much good and bad.

We pass from life to death as if we go to sleep.
The soul we had that made us live has proven to be weak.
Our bodies fail the test of passing time; our souls can't overcome,
But holding hands upon the hills we are as if we're one.

Yes I shall die and leave behind some valued memories.
But when I'm gone you shall remain to sit amongst the trees,
And then the challenge shall be real; is there a God or no?
For as you there decide determines where you go.
