Trees Are An Essential Element Of Our Lives This Poem Asks The Reader To Plant A Tree Every Day

A NEW TREE FOR EVERY DAY

Beneath the trees upon the ground
Dead branches leaves and twigs abound
Tokens of a life that's passed
But not having given up their last
For still they have a task to fill
as part of Nature's grand design and will.

Gathered up into a pile
On winters day they raise a smile
As in a fire they warm the guest
sheltered from the winds of west.
Golden tongues that flick and lick
as they consume each little stick.

Many colours stream in flames
Dancing, glowing, alive again
No more depending drops of rain.
No more ferocious winds of pain.
But in due time ashes and dust
return them to the earth's great trust.

Beneath the trees upon the ground
the seeds of life are to be found.
In compost scatted to be born
awaiting their own springtime morn.
When after winds and rain and snow
Their first green shoots begin to grow.

In time new trees all rise above the earth
A celebration of their timely birth
as leaves and branches and twigs fell down
to make the earth's own compost crown.
Nature's cycle some might say.
There's a new tree for every day.
