Earth's Eternal Facelift Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Earth's Eternal Facelift

The ground feels solid, firm and still,
Beneath the street, beneath the hill.
But deep below the dust and stone,
The earth has secrets of its own.

Great plates of rock, like giant rafts,
Drift slowly through the heated drafts.
They pull apart, they bump and slide,
With nowhere left for them to hide.

What looks like home is on the move,
A shifting dance, a steady groove.
The lands we know will change their shape,
With no way left for us to escape.

Old oceans widen, mountains rise,
To touch the clouds and graying skies.
In million years, the map will fade,
New worlds will rise from what we laid.

The globe is breathing, deep and slow,
A living pulse we barely know.
It rearranges, piece by piece,
And grants our spinning world release.
