Easy To Conquer Poem by Valerie Dohren

Easy To Conquer

So you thought I was easy to conquer,
That I'd crumble and melt in your arms -
To become your adoring admirer,
Giving in to your endearing charms.

And you thought I would cosset your ego,
doing all that you wanted me to,
but I saw through the mask you presented -
I'm no longer enamoured with you.

No I won't be your timid handmaiden,
Nor be hoodwinked by your every word -
And to think that I'd fall for your lies dear,
Is conceited and simply absurd.

Yet you thought I would gladly surrender,
And succumb to your charms in the end -
But my dear you are sadly mistaken,
To your smugness I never would bend.

Oh, you thought I was easy to conquer,
That I'd meekly fall under your spell -
Well in this you are clearly deluded,
So from me it's a final farewell.
