Echoes Poem by Stuart Doggett

Echoes

As all this falls down
We take shelter from
Everything we made.

Protected by the arms
Of someone we charmed
With last nights champagne.

We don’t want them to,
We know they’ll come through
But for now we’re saved.

Come down from that high,
Look at where we lie,
See what we’ve betrayed.

It’s visible in our eyes,
The lies we contrived
Can’t hide the poison bloom.

That thing that seemed so sweet,
How could we be so weak?
The bitter taste prevails.

Sounds of what was there
Are no longer clear
And now all we hear
Are echoes.
