Edit Your Hometown Poem by Lora Cooley

Edit Your Hometown

This is to:
Lost dreams
To the streets that raised me
Saying 'Goodbye' to the hope for a sense of home that I've been holding onto
Say 'Goodbye', 'Be gone', and 'Be great' to the friends who've left
For the ones who chose to waste away unplaced
And pray to get out, to grow old, to grow strong, and to leave this city
All the memories turn to gray
They space out till it's just daydreams
Can I leave?
Rewind and find a younger me
All hopes and goals and dreams alight and bright with friendship
'Now makes a choice' my city said
And while I swore it my allegiance
They chose leaving
And it hurts me to know I'm alone now
And it's worse when I know that I chose it
Don't make the same mistakes as me
It's been me gone all along
We all part one day and drop like leaves into the breeze
And ain't it wild? Bitter? Didn't it carry you from me? Can I forget you? I still believe I might get left here
Wait and see
We'll wait and see
Or, rather, I will
Only me
Only me
