Eko-Lagos Poem by Chukwuebuka Adebayo

Eko-Lagos

Rating: 5.0

If you have ever turned in,
You just had a bit of everything
To see those warm falling smiles
Of the three Eyo white statues,
----As they welcomes you.

The sun is not lazy here,
No stars shines at night in its sky
No one prays for rain here;
I think i too will worship their gods,
They have made a stunning place.

Only those who have faith,
Like me are likely to go there.
To see wide lovely paintings,
High bridges, open canals--they smell
Their acids will burn your lungs.

Here---buildings are so lofty,
And could make your eyes sick.
Here---you will see fishers,
Throwing down their nets overboard,
And ships sailing off the dirty lagoon.

Those living here don't kill time
They will never wave you----
Or shake hands as we use to.
Here, sons gives advice to fathers,
Mothers does the cooking for their girls.

Peoples moves fast as thunderbolts
Planes---they yell as mating whales
Cars and motorbikes engaging in battles
Boys in their madding streets hustles,
Running into roads winding down
Into the big busy markets.

-----All in this one destination,
Everything is entertaining and noisy;
The ikeja's vast landscapes are ideal
You will always find a new friend here
Already i know it won't be long,
Before I will return again there.

Excellently written! The imagery here makes me feel as if I'm in Lagos again.
