Elusive Nights© Poem by Roann Mendriq

Elusive Nights©

Every night, he waits with yearning,
for her dark and sweet relief;
I feel him tossing now and turning,
waiting with impatient grief.

Fragrant candles meant for wooing,
bid her come to him in stealth;
Cups of soothing teas are brewing,
to calmly toast him with good health.

These lone nocturnal trysts cease,
with the lighting of the dawn;
When with a semblance of release,
he tells himself she's now far gone.

Every day, exhausted; broken by her whim,
Cruel, fickle Sleep has long abandoned him.
