Ember Poem by Aine Carroll

Ember

Rating: 5.0

Within me I hold an ember.
I want you to understand
how strong an ember can be.

It has the ability to burn cities to the ground.
To leave nothing behind but ash.
It can destroy if it is unleashed
and when it rolls it rolls like thunder.
After it has burned strong out of it emerges new life.
A new person.

This I hold inside me.
It is from this I draw my strength.
It has protected me for life times.
So remember when you try to hurt me
That within me burns an ember.

The late singer Jim Reeves once had a song called 'Whispering Hope'.You are saying much the same thing clothed in different language and different imagery. Would that people on the edge of despair would find this 'ember' within themselves and realise their potential to overcome their difficulties.10.
