Empty Promises - Poem by Asif Kamran Dar

Starring out at an un-eventfull setting
All alone and quiet an obscure space
Along my little street A picture be-fitting
Of an old, remorse and lonely place

Where days turn to night and nights to day
Obscure as ever A vision transfixed
Outside my window an un-changing dismay
Of hope, life and drudgery immixed

And at nights I've seen the black skies
Red like the erupting volcano dust
Like the look of blood-shot eyes
Like the screams of A swarm of locust

And A time of trials
And A moment of tribulation
And memories of betrayals
And A moment of exhilaration

But. stare into my windows of empty promises
Of bewilderment and isolation A desolate sight
Beyond these spectacles and beyong these premises
A struggle for preservation and an endless plight

A deplorable way of life that one must deride
But, it is that in which I must abide.
