Empty Words Poem by Lynne Howard

Empty Words

What they had would last forever
Penned by hand of one so clever
Life is cruel and quite absurd
Writing of the empty words

Have faith he wrote trust and believe
When his intention was to deceive
Oblivious to her feelings and unperturbed
Continued with the empty words

Skillfully he played the game
Selfishly he took no blame
Toyed with emotions as to disturb
Filling her with empty words

Hiding away in the darkened room
Now all she feels is doom and gloom
Sad refrain from the radio heard
Weeping silently at the empty words

Lying on the bed with glass in hand
Swallowing pills with no demand
Eyes growing dim the choice is hers
Fading of the empty words
