Epitaph Poem by Lanaia Lee

Epitaph

I don't recognize where I am as I wake up and look around
What is this awful smell? The stench of death I smell?
Where is this awful place? So silent, I don't hear one sound
Is this reality or do within a nightmare I dwell?

This place so dark, I couldn't run even if I wanted to
Light, I must find some light, then maybe I can see
In my pocket I find a lighter maybe now I can see some sort of view
There seems to be marble and stone all around me.

No moon out makes this place so dark
This smell of damp earth and death puzzles me
I hear dogs in the background as they howl and bark
Gosh! Away from here! I must run and flee.

As I try to flee I get so far and run into some kind of barrier
It seems like something is beckoning me to stay in this awful place
I must get away from here! This place I must some how deter
I'm beginning to think I am stuck somewhere between time and space.

The awful feeling as if I'm being beckoned. What is this awful thing?
I follow my feeling and what I see next just can't be
A piece of marble! A big horrid thing!
The epitaph, my name, is this really what I see?
