Essence of Spring

Like a favourite child,
you charm and beguile.
The hope that it brings
is the essence of Spring.

Viburnum Bodnantense 'Dawn',
heady scented in early morn.
First to rise, then first to fall,
in verdant, modest overall.

Snowdrops will begin
the season's awakening,
heralding the trumpets
of heads above parapets.

Hyacinths familiar scents
afford comfort and content.
Heady brethren undrilled,
enthuse wanderers of rills.

Wild garlic breathes again,
amidst the early April rain.
Basking Summer awaits,
to sow its seeds profligate.

Intoxicate me, nature's joys;
arouse me with lover's ploys.
Bring your new beginnings
from which warmth springs.

I hear Voices of Spring
and Summer is a-coming-in.
Lovely intermezzo season,
bringing both rhyme and reason.
