Ester Or May Of My Yesterday Poem by Sophie Allyah

Ester Or May Of My Yesterday

I remember the first time I met love
Where I put, more than anything else, above
That I am not myself for many days
I swear, I'm absent in many ways!

Her name might as well be Ester or May
For I only saw her once on that day
So many attempts, I wished I didn't try to
Why did I feel on that day blue?

And why is my heart so cruel to me?
To feel that way if she's ever near to see?
I might be a rugged man to be with
But to ask her name I rather puff a weed

Now years gone by I'm a different me
Not a jagged person that I used to be
I could do it this time, if ever, again, we meet
Not like that day on that crowded street.

But when would that day come?
When my nephew gets older and glum?
Or my hair becomes as white as snow
That I would move with a cane so slow?

If only I could utter the words I want to say
On that loaded street of that very day
The blush of our love could reach heaven
If only I had the courage, only then.
