Eternal Darkness Poem by Lorraine Licona

Eternal Darkness

Rating: 5.0

The dark tunnel of depression closes in
like the night
Suffocating me
Squeezing and crushing my heart
as it’s black walls press against my body
surrounding me with despair
And it’s fear grips my soul
till anguished I scream
from the depths of my being
a long torturous scream
like an animal to the slaughter
My mind
As void as the darkness
struggles with itself to no avail
to reach some form of sanity
or understanding
Thoughts are scrambled and insignificant
like the shadows that lurk
Unseen
Yet real
My body
Paralyzed in shock and terror
Not able to move
for fear of encountering the unknown
As my hands grip the wall for direction
I slip and stumble
floundering without hope
desperately trying to feel my way to the light
My eyes
Open in a stare
Unblinking
See nothing but the black darkness
Whose end is eternity
