European Lynx Poem by Denis Martindale

European Lynx

The European Lynx once seen,
A sight one can't forget,
Two pointed ears, and in-between,
Distinctive features set.
Perhaps a sight that helps recall
A tabby cat no more,
And yet it's still a miracle
I know I can't ignore.

Today, there on the Internet,
Some photographs I found,
That one man knew he had to get,
Of scenes that could astound.
Lynx cubs were playing just outside
Upon his porch that day,
Of course, he stared, eyes opened wide,
That such luck came his way.

Two hundred photos quickly made,
Had captured them so well,
The mother, too, was unafraid,
And joined her cubs a spell.
And so, this poem came to mind,
To bless me once again,
For miracles are yet to find
To bless the hearts of men.

Denis Martindale,14th August 2024.

The poem is about the magnificent nature painting of the
UK wildlife artist Stephen Gayford called European Lynx.

In Anchorage, Alaska, photographer Tim Newton awoke
to a remarkable sight on his back deck.

On that fateful morning, September 19,2017, for over
twenty minutes, the family of lynx played energetically
on the porch, wrestling and leaping, in an enchanting
display of their youthful exuberance.
