Even In A Crowd Poem by Dr. Ramesh Chandra Mukhopadhyaya

Even In A Crowd

Even in a crowd you suddenly become lonely

Or else put off the light

and loll on the bed left alone

And hear the cricket

although there is none

In Indian cities such as Calcutta

you will not hear any cricket

just as in France you donot find any snake

And still when you are lonely

you can hear a cricket

beating its wings

At first it might be mild

But pay attention to it

and your mind can rest on the sound

The sound becomes all in all

Although there is no cricket

the cricket is everywhere

And even you are in France

although there is no snake

you might feel a snake

going up your spine

And you are transported to a swoon

for some time

which might give you a tranquil feeling
