Eventless Dream Poem by Ravinder Kumar Soni

Eventless Dream

He was an intelligent person,
Learned but a showoff,
He knew what people expected of him.
He knew I loved dreams.
On this visit, he had brought me a dream,
That he promised would last,
Till the next sunrise,
I was hopeful.
I placed the package beneath my pillow and
Waited for the dream it contained, to unfold,
Nothing happened up till the break of dawn.
I had to return the dream, but where was he I asked.
I could not find him anywhere.
Many years have gone by unnoticed,
The package remains with me unopened,
Without a dream, the nights are difficult to pass.
I am unable to sleep, and the days are tiresome.
I must return the packaged dream,
That without being dreamt is killing me.
The light in my life is almost gone,
Flowers have lost their colours,
The birds have lost their voice, they no longer sing,
My life has lost its charm.
Outside the stars continue to shine and
The wind streamed gently waiting for the night,
To end its spell.
Suddenly my body shuddered, I was awake.
I had been dreaming all night,
It was a dark eventless dream, replicating my life.
