Everlasting Sunlight Poem by Bob Hair

Everlasting Sunlight

Rating: 3.0

It's a quite simple thought,
I'm sure you'll agree,
That we're all made of energy,
Just read this and see,

Because energy never dies,
Just changes form, changes state,
Such as heat into light
So the energy can escape,

Or sometimes it can be captured,
For plants to be grown,
When the sun hits the earth,
Where seeds have been sown,

These plants catch the sun,
In the cells in their leaves,
Whether it's wheat, corn, potatoes,
Or maize, even trees,

It becomes the fruit and the veg,
We use for our food,
And you have to agree,
That the sun tastes good

Or it's munched upon, chewed upon,
By cows, pigs or sheep,
The energy carries on,
The sun never sleeps,

Then we'll eat them too,
As a roast, or whatever,
But has the energy gone?
Well no! It can never,

die, as I said,
Nor will it rest,
That captured slice of sun,
That we will then digest,

So we can use it to move,
And to run and to sing,
I use the sun's energy,
For poetry writing,

You should now understand,
And hopefully see,
That the sun becomes plants,
Then animals, then me.

So what happens when we,
Have finally gone,
And our eyes no longer look,
To where the sun has shone?

We release our sun's energy,
As we expel our last breath,
Although our body's stopped moving,
There's life after death,

Because the sun that was in us,
Is now free to fly,
From the container that held it,
When eventually it died.

The energy transforms,
And becomes something else,
To live on forever,
As a form of ourselves.

It may go back to nature,
Or maybe back to the sun
Or might go off elsewhere,
Just to have fun,

One things for certain,
Now you've just read why,
Is that life is everlasting,
Since energy can't die.

You made your point very well about everlasting life. You also express how useful we are made by the energy we receive. How important therefore it must be that we utilize to the fullest the lives that we know as we live. Through love, we give our lives to others for their very need and sometimes their survival.

Yes, the conservation of energy. However, in an expanding universe, eventually the energy will be so far spread out, that it will be a cold and dark place. (Thousands of trillions of years from now) I like the rhyme scheme and the positivity of this piece, Bob. Thanks
