Everything Starts To Fade Poem by Thomas Noel Smith

Everything Starts To Fade

Everything starts to fade
As the day wears steadily on
And the westward sun starts to set
Everything starts to fade

Morning children watched the light
Have seen it with their eyes-
The sunsets come just to some, they say
But will never come to us.

“We won’t see the final glow
Of dimming light of life
We don’t believe that the sun that sets
Will ever touch our lives”

But everything fades for all who live
The sun’s light slowly dims.
Life is here for a brief, brief time
As time moves steadily on

Those who touch our lives with joy
Leave before our memories fade,
Becoming visions in our mind
Of who they were.

Some lives ended long ago
And some just went away
But we remain alone and lost
As everything starts to fade

We see the day, lighting the way
For the moon’s nighttime path
Violet hues streak the sky
As everything slowly fades.
