Excuses Your Obstacle To Real Success Poem by Haki Aitoro

Excuses Your Obstacle To Real Success

Rating: 5.0

Captivated by irresponsibility
Charmed by dependency
In love with blame
The irresponsible avoids
The dependent denies
The blameworthy accuses
All in the name of excuse

You embrace it passionately
Caress it affectionately
Even dance with it sensually

You are stupefied by its lethal touch
You are stunned by its venomous bite
You are mesmerized by its deadly hypnosis
Like a vampire’s victim
Once bitten you will spend your life in its embrace
Suffocated
You will no longer inhale the air of responsibility
You will no longer smell the scent of independence

Your life of possibility
Your time of potential
Slashed by the fangs of excuse
Savaged by the incisors of blame
The blood of endeavor drained from your body
Feeding the ravenous
Satiating the voracious
Giving life to an insatiable entity
A psychological vampire
With an unquenchable thirst for your self-responsibility
With an insatiable appetite for your independence
With an excessive hunger for your determination
You are its bride
You are its groom
A zombie
Living dead
Dead to the world of possibility
Dead to the world of opportunity
Married to a hinderer of your success
Married to an obstacle to your happiness
You gave your life to the seductive vampire
And he gave you a most memorable wedding present
A wedding present for eternity
One you would never forget
One you would always use
One which would devastate your life
One which would annihilate your hope
One which would kill your drive
One which thwarts your progress
Excuses

So for those of you reading this
Yes you
Know that every excuse you make
Every person you blame
Every obstacle you avoid
Is a sign of your ruin
An indication of your demise
A warning of your downfall
In the name of excuse

There is only one cure
The cure is this
Like a baby who learns
To walk successfully
To talk articulately
In spite of the obstacles
In spite of the many failures
She does not make excuses
She does not say
‘I need a softer surface on which to learn how to walk;
‘A simpler grammar to learn how to talk’
For there is no success where excuses lie

So learn from your babies
And stop blaming the government
Stop blaming your negative past
Stop blaming your environment
Stop blaming your level of education
Take responsibility for your actions
Take responsibility for your failings
Find a better way
Keep on moving
And say no to excuses
